The golden rule about playing every game is applicable to golf too. The more you practice, the better you get. Tiger Woods does have the talent and potential for playing golf. But he has been the first to arrive at the golf course for practice and the last to go. One professional golfer has actually written that one day he went for practice much earlier than usual, so as to be the first person to reach for practice on that day. He could not reach there first because Tiger Woods had already been there. So the most important answer to the question of how to play better golf is practice, practice, and practice.
If you want to learn how to play better golf, you have plenty of resources, including several books written by ex-golfers and coaches. If you know how to use the internet, you can find a number of websites that provide detailed tutorials for improving one’s game of golf. But reading these books and websites is one thing and practicing is another. Several golf courses have an in-house golf trainer. One can utilize the support of these golf coaches for learning something new.
Swinging, that is, hitting the golf ball with the golf stick or golf club is that most basic aspect of the game. The way one swings normally determines one’s performance. So, if you are looking for ways on how to play better golf, the first thing you should learn is how to develop a perfect swinging method. The basic idea behind the game of golf is to get the ball in a hole at the far end of the golf course through a series of shots or golf swings. The person who takes less number of swings to get the ball to the hole wins the game.
There are so many theories and “right” methods of golf swing. Some of these theories are mutually contradictory. This does not help a person what wants to learn how to play better golf. The first thing one should know is there is no universally accepted “right” golf swing. The grip on the club, the back lift of the swing, the head position, and the actual swinging method all can be different for different players. What matters is not the process, but the end result: getting the ball where one wants it next. So, one has to start swinging in the manner that gets one maximum benefit.
Also, one has to concentrate very well while swinging. Ideally, one should have a target in mind. The choice of target should fit into the grand tactical plan of winning the game. Concentration and focus are as important as the momentum of the swing to get desired results.

Putting is the most delicate part of Golf. While you can live with ending up a few feet off on your drive or approach, with putting you have to be dead on target or you’ve just added a stroke to your score. Many players pay more attention to their swings and invest less of their time on practicing putting. Don’t make the same mistake. Read this article without skipping a word to see how to propel your putting game to a whole new level.

Golf Putting Tips

Golf Putting Tip #1: Don’t Ignore the wind — Many players take the wind into account only on long balls. This is a mistake you can’t afford to make. Of course the wind has more effect on the ball when it’s airborne than when it’s on the green, but a strong breeze can still wreak havoc on a putt. Remember how light the ball is and how small is the hole. Even a few inches to the side due to wind can add a stroke to your score.

Golf Putting Tip #2: Keep your head still — Many players tend to follow the motion of the ball with their eyes and head. This causes their head to move even as they’re making the putt, shifts their shoulders and entire stance, and eliminates their control of the ball. Make sure to keep your head still until the ball is well on it’s way.

Golf Putting Tip #3: Read the green from a number of angles — Often I see players check the green from one position only: along the course the ball should take to the hole. This tells only part of the story. Reading the green from a number of angles will provide more information and allow you to putt the ball better.

If you want to play better golf you need to invest some time in improving several aspects of your game. It’s simply not enough to buy some golf clubs, get some lessons, and go tee off. That’s how bad players are born. If you don’t want to be the ridicule of the local golf course, you’d better make a sincere effort to bring your ability to the maximum. If you strengthen the elements of your game which I’ll review in this article, you’d get better at playing golf and outperform most golfers simply because most of them don’t make such an effort.

3 Things you need to improve in order to play better golf

1. Improve your golf fitness — A lot of players think that golf doesn’t require any fitness at all. After all, it’s not like basketball or Football, is it? It may be true that golf isn’t the most energetic game in the world, but it does require a great deal of fitness: the right fitness, fitness for golf. If you think Tiger Woods doesn’t work hard on improving his strength and flexibility, you’ve got another think coming. How do you think he manages to drive that ball that far off? He has explosive power in his back, legs, shoulders, and arms. Most players fall 20-50 yards short of their swing potential simply because they don’t condition their body to golf. If you want get better at Golf, you shouldn’t ignore this.

2. improve your golf mental game — your success in Golf, like in any sport, depends on your physical ability but also on your mental ability. We all know of players who choke before a crucial stroke. These aren’t the players who rise to the top. If you have tee jitters, or feel tense before a putt, you need to work on your mental game. There are some excellent tools which specifically improve the mental aspect of the Golf game. Some players reported that improving the mental side of their game shaved 7 or more strokes off their score. To play golf better, you have to do this.

3. Educate yourself — In order to play better golf, you need to educate yourself on the intricacies of the game. Taking a few short lessons when you start out simply isn’t enough. You need to pinpoint your weak spots and constantly work on them. One way to do it in an affordable, yet highly effective way, is to get some Golf e-books. There are some excellent products which can give you a year’s worth of training for less than what a single lesson costs. You can find a review of the best golf e-books on this webpage: Golf Ebooks Review. You won’t believe the kind of amateurish mistakes players make. With a great e-book, you cut improve your score by 7-12 strokes. It’s a great investment which will get you to play much better golf in no time.

Plating better golf is a process, not a one time thing. If you make an effort to strengthen yourself physically, mentally, and educate yourself, you’ll get better and better at Golf and become the envy of your club. Who knows, you might even find you have a hidden talent for the game. It’s all up to you.

With the multitude of options in golf shoes these days, figuring out which ones are best for you can be a daunting task, especially if you are new to the game. Here are some factors to consider when buying golf shoes.

Price - Golf shoes can range from around $35 to $300 and more. Just like in most things, you get what you pay for in golf shoes. They range from synthetic leather on the inexpensive end to the finest calfskin leather on the more expensive end, with a multitude of features in between. The more expensive golf shoes will last you longer, feel better on your feet, and, yes, actually help your golf game believe it or not.

How often you play - This is probably the deciding factor on how much you want to spend on golf shoes. If you only play golf twice a year, you might not be willing to shell out $300 on a pair of golf shoes. You may be just fine with that $35 pair of golf shoes. Of course, how good you look plays a part in this as well. If you want to look like you play golf twice a year, then go for the $35 pair. If you want to look great even if your game isn’t, then step up to the plate and get those beautiful expensive golf shoes!

Fit - Obviously you need to get the correct size. The last that the golf shoe is built on has much to do with getting the correct fit of shoe for you. FootJoy alone uses over 20 lasts for the shoes that they build. So it’s important to check out sizing guides online for golf shoes if you are purchasing them online.

Waterproof Warranty - Golf shoes range from “water-resistant”, which means there is no waterproof warranty, to shoes having a two-year waterproof guarantee. Again, the more waterproof warranty you opt for, the more expensive the golf shoes will be. Obviously, if you’re a dew sweeper and play a lot of golf in the morning, it is most wise to go for the golf shoes that carry a two-year waterproof warranty. Most of these shoes will stay waterproof for longer if you take good care of them. We’ll touch on that later.

Leather or Synthetic - As you might imagine, this aspect of golf shoes is a major deciding factor in the price of the golf shoes that you are interested in purchasing. Fine calfskin leather shoes will be much more expensive than synthetic leather shoes. The calfskin leather golf shoes will also be much more comfortable on your feet and will mold and stretch into the most comfortable shoes you’ll probably have in your closet! Leather shoes will also have waterproof capability that the synthetic leather golf shoes won’t. There are different grades of leather used in golf shoes, and as the grade gets better, the price will increase.

Caring for your golf shoes - The single most important thing you can do to keep your golf shoes lasting their longest is to use shoe trees in them. Before you rip them off and throw them in the trunk of your car, put shoe trees in them first! These provide two things; shoe trees draw the moisture (sweat) out of your golf shoes, and also maintain the shape of the shoes, especially if they are leather. That way the next time you pull them out to play golf, your golf shoes won’t have curled up and shrunk a size or two. You can also keep them relatively clean by simply wiping them down with your golf towel after your round. Of course the best way to care for them is to have the locker room attendant clean and polish them for you!

If you ever have any questions about these factors or any other aspect of making your golf shoe purchase decision, please don’t hesitate to ask!

Golf is a game played in a vast open field by individuals or teams. The aim of the game is to strike the golf balls with the special clubs into the holes. Generally there are nine or eighteen holes and the player who strikes the ball into the hole with least shots get to win the game. Along the way from taking the tee-off the aim is to get the ball onto the green in as few shots as possible via the fairway avoiding the common hazards found on a golf course such as the rough-basically thick, long grass. Trees, bunkers found along the fairway but more likely surrounding the green and other hazards such as lakes and boundaries.

Like all sports golf too is played with the objective of winning the game. Players have to follow the general rules and regulations of the game. All players are expected to maintain and follow some basic etiquette while on the game field or while communication with the players, organizers or workers.

Proper etiquette and good mannerism will be well accepted and the player might be well known and popular for his good behaviour. Thus the golf player needs to know and follow some basic etiquette. There is no written rule or gospel to preach such etiquette to the golf players. Forethought, conscious behavior and mutual respect will help the player to sustain himself in the game for long. But in general allowing players pass if your ball is lost for a long period of time and not playing in more than a group of 4 are my personal “favourites”- It’s just basic manners!

Have you ever considered a golf school vacation as a way of combining your vacation with a means of improving your game? Has your game been letting you down lately, or have you finished the season on a bit of a low, feeling a bit down with your rising scores and reducing length? How about a winter vacation down south while your own club is closed for the winter?

Some courses are open all year round, especially the desert courses in Nevada and Arizona. A vacation in Scottsdale or Phoenix might be an ideal way for you to get some of these bad habits sorted out, or have your swing properly analyzed and corrected, before the spring comes around again. Just imaging the look on your foursome’s faces as you hammer that ball 300 yards down the fairway, as straight as a die!

There are many golf schools around that can give you a week’s coaching, and most are equipped with the latest video imaging techniques with biometric swing analysis that can diagnose exactly where you are going wrong. The right coaching can resolve your swing problem and add yards to your length. You can spend all winter hacking balls down a driving range without improving your game one iota if you don’t know exactly what your problem is. What you need is a professional golf coach to give your game a check over and find out what parts of your game need improved.

That takes professional equipment, and slow motion video replay of your swing can detect what is wrong with your swing mechanics. You might also need some specialized fitness training. Sometimes all this is needed to get your game back to where it should be is some proper golf-specific strength and stretching training. It’s no good just pumping iron in gym because that won’t help your golf game. You need to exercise all the muscles you use when swinging a golf club, and that involves specialized exercises.

You have several options in golf school vacations. You and your golf buddies can take a week in Vegas, getting your golf problems sorted out in the day, and enjoying some time on the tables at night. Or even take in a show or two. There are some excellent golf schools in and around Las Vegas that also offer accommodation in of the Vegas hotels. You have Bird schools and Butch Harmon among lots of others, each offering great five star accommodation.

How about fitting in some winter sports and heading off to the David Leadbetter Academy in Vail, Colorado - more popular than Aspen, but there are also golf schools in Aspen if you prefer. Mix your golf coaching with some skiing or snowboarding. However, if you like it hot, try one of the desert courses in Arizona. That might be a unique experience for you, especially if you get your swing sorted out as part of the deal.

If you have the family with you, Florida or the Carolina Grand Strand will keep the kids happy, while you and your partner get some coaching, or perhaps he or she wants to take advantage of the beach or fit in some shopping. Myrtle Beach is fabulous for both.

Whatever you choose, whether it is a full two week vacation with continuous coaching, or just a weekend away for some professional swing analysis, make sure you know what you want, and set your self a budget. The best golf schools have one on one coaching, or last two pupils per teacher. Some run to four or more, but you get what you pay for. Check out the golf course, and try to negotiate some free rounds after the coaching.

If you can arrange to get your coaching off-season, it might be a lot less expensive, and the resorts are usually a lot cheaper then too. Never accept the price offered, but ask what discounts are available. You can often get something knocked off the price. Make sure that the vacation suits everybody and you know exactly what you are getting. There is nothing worse than your partner and children hanging around all day with nothing to do, stuck in a poor golf resort with nothing around for miles.

Whatever you choose, it is going to be worth it as you step up to that first tee after the winter break, pull out your driver and know that you are going to amaze your buddies with your new form. They will be green with envy at that 30 yards you have improved by - and all without a hint of that slice that was plaguing you all last season.

The secret to playing better golf is to improve your golf swing. There are other aspects of your game that you can work on, such as your putting line and ability to read greens, but if you can improve your swing then you will improve your overall game.

The secret to consistent golf is to have a consistent swing. Have you ever watched Tiger Woods’ swing? It is the same all the time. Whether he is playing a full powered drive or an eight iron to the green, his swing is consistently the same. That is true of all sportsmen: consistency is the key, and if you can get consistency in your swing, your game must improve. So how do you develop that consistency?

Whether or not you are going to be as good as Tiger is debatable, but the first step to attaining consistency is fitness. Not just ordinary fitness, but fitness for golf. Your swing is not a natural movement for you, and you are using muscles you rarely use in ways that they are not normally used. If that sounds confusing, it is no more so than why golfers rotate their bodies that way. The only way to train for that type of rotational body movement is to use it in your training!

That statement is probably best explained by example. The stronger the muscles you use in your swing, the more energy you are going to be able to pass on to the club head as it drives through the ball, and the farther you will hit it. It’s not only strength of course, since you need the flexibility to be able to stretch these muscles on the backswing and wind up the potential energy needed for these great long distance drives.

The best way to strengthen the muscles used in your swing is to swing with a greater resistance or weight than you are used to. The way you build up your biceps is to lift weights and the way you build up the muscles you swing with is use weights when swinging. The simplest way is to use a heavy or weighted golf club, but you can also hold a piece of strong elastic tied to a door knob, or even purchase some exercise tubing, while you swing your arms as if you were holding a club.

That will strengthen the shoulder, arm, back and leg muscles you use. The more strength you develop then the faster you will be able to swing. If you carry out stretching exercises, then these muscles will become more flexible, and you will be able to twist right back on the backswing and unleash all that power in one mighty swing with all that acquired strength, and whack that golf ball farther down the fairway than you ever have before.

Simple rotational stretching exercises can be carried out at home or in your office by sitting on a chair, holding a weight straight out in front of you with both hands (a dumbbell, heavy rock or large tin full of earth) and then twisting as far as you can from one side to the other, holding for three or four seconds at the end of each twist. It won’t take long till you notice the difference in how far you can twist round on your backswing and follow right round on the follow through.

Strength exercises, as already explained, involve swinging your arms with a weight such as a dumbbell as if you were swinging a golf club, or even better, getting yourself a weighted golf club designed for the purpose, and using that. Pumping iron in a gym will not get you fit for golf since it does not exercise the rotational swing movement or improve the flexibility of the muscles and joints you use when playing the game. Treadmills are equally useless for golf fitness, although they might help you walk round the course quicker.

The main way to improve your golf swing is to get fit for golf by using golf specific strength and stretching exercises to improve your swing and help you to get more power through your swing, and more energy on the club head as it strikes and drives through the golf ball.

Most people know all about the great things golf does for a person, like exercise and stress relief. But the dark side of golf is often something that people choose to be rather selective about and choose to ignore. This dark side can include a lot of aspects that can cause a normal person to be driven quite insane by the game, leading to some serious conclusions about the game of golf that need to be aptly considered.

One of the cons of golf is the possible medical problems that can result from playing the game intensely. Those who play the game of golf incorrectly may injure their arms. Golfer’s elbow is a common condition found among avid golfers. Similar to tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow is characterized by a pain in the elbow, particularly in the medial area of the joint. The pain can be present at rest, but is intensified when the flexor muscles are activated. The pain is caused by an inflammation of the tendon that attaches the flexor muscles to the elbow. The flexor muscles are the muscles in the forearm that cause the fingers and thumb to bend. Golfer’s elbow is particularly painful when the fist is clenched.

Golf is one of the most expensive sports out there to play. Many a person has been driven straight to the welfare line because of their lucrative golf habit. The golfer needs to have the right equipment, green fees, and other aspects of the game in their back pocket in order to not be laughed off the course. The right clothing is important, as are golf lessons and the cart rental unless you intend to slum it and walk the course. Don’t forget the food you will eat, the air you will breathe, and the water you will drink as you are out on the course. All of these aspects add up to one fundamental truth about the game of golf: it’s expensive!

Golf is not an easy sport to teach a child. In order to teach your son or daughter to golf, you will need to invest considerable amounts of money, time, and energy just to get your child on the golf course! You have to pay the greens fee, buy or rent the equipment, and pay for lessons, all before your little golfer decides whether or not he likes the game. And, in order to be exceptionally good at golf, potential pros really should start as children. Unlike other sports like basketball and football, a group of kids cannot start a pick up game of golf in the back yard. If a kid is going to learn to play golf, it will take a level of commitment and dedication that most kids are not ready for.

With these cons aside, golf is with us to stay. Too many large corporate decisions happen on the golf course. The followers of pros like Tiger Woods will continue to fuel the fire of the PGA and other golfing groups. So, like it or not, golf will be with us for a long, long time. So why not catch a round and see what all the fuss is about!
